John and Horace Dodge created the automobile company after growing up working in their father's bicycle shop. At one point Dodge was making most of the parts used in Ford automobiles, and the brothers had a 10% stake in Ford. They decided to start their own company and were eventually bought by Chrysler in 1928. Dodge was one of the leading car companies in the muscle car movement of the 1960s and 1970s with cars such as the Charger, Challenger, and Coronet. The Hemi engine is one of the most popular engines among muscle car enthusiasts. |
